FOWC: Magical

“How’s she doing Sergeant?” Inspector Carlton look up from his paperwork, eyes red and sore behind his old horn-rimmed specs as DS Marlowe entered his office.

“As well as can be expected Guv, she’s seen the doc and he’s said that, other than being under-developed for her age and malnourished, she’s not in too bad a state”

FOWC: Target

“You bitch! Can’t you see what you’ve done with your moaning and carrying on all the time”

“Me? It’s thanks to you that I don’t have any friends, that I’m stuck in this place day in and day out”

“Yes, that’s right, turn it round like you always do. What happened with Michael huh? You loved him, you hated him, you were clingy then, the next minute, you didn’t want to know. It’s no great surprise that he took of with Sally in the end is it?”

FOWC: Free

He almost felt sorry for the woman in the witness box, she looked so pathetic with her scraggy hair, tiny watery eyes and turned down mouth. ‘She really is one of the most unattractive women I’ve ever seen’ he thought to himself.

“I’m here to help you, do you understand?”

The man had a calming, gentle voice and his face, behind his large black spectacles, was kind. He could elicit a response with nothing more than a well timed pause and an encouraging smile. The prisoner before him was known to be recalcitrant but he’d worked with him over several weeks and felt that they were finally getting somewhere.

FOWC: Driver

“Can you take me to number 10 Ave Maria Lane please?”

Without waiting for an answer George climbed into the Hackney carriage. He hadn’t much liked the look of it but what was a man to do after a late night at the club? The chaps had certainly been on form tonight and by God he’d feel it in the morning, his head was swimming

FOWC: Pending

Mark sat staring at the letter, wishing he could share the contents with someone but he knew it was impossible. he couldn’t tell, not yet. These few, short sentences could change his life forever; reading them over again he couldn’t suppress a squeal of delight, finally he had achieved something worthwhile. He couldn’t help but feel a deep sense of satisfaction when he thought about the look on his brother’s face when he shared the news with him; the black sheep at last coming good..

“Girls” his voice thundered “Girls! Where are you?”

‘Those bloody kids’ he thought ‘where the hell have they wandered off to now’.

“Gina! Find the girls, we’re going to be late” he picked up his whiskey and took a gulp.

Assassin

‘Bollocks!’ Kadem thought to himself ‘I really hate this bloody job sometimes!’

He looked through his latest work order and really wished that he could just bin it and walk away but, in his profession, that really wasn’t an option. He rubbed his eyes and briefly put his head in his hands before turning his attention back to the screen.

FOWC: Leave

He watches her as she struggles to bring the wood in for the fire, hands cold, head down.  It had started to rain when she was splitting the logs but she hadn’t stopped, she’d raised the axe over and over again, slowly fading as her muscles grew weaker. It’s not a long walk from the woodpile to the house but she had done it so many times her step had begun to  falter.
