Feeling Proud

Good morning blogging world, I hope that you’re having a great day! I thought I’d share with you a little something and nothing just because I am feeling rather proud about it. Those of you who’ve followed my blog for a while will know that, in the past, I haven’t had an awful lot of self-confidence and found social situations quite challenging; I know that many of you have had the same problem.

Anyway, to get to the point, I joined a social group a couple of years ago but had never attended an event because, quite frankly, I didn’t have the balls. The thought of going somewhere on my own and talking to people I didn’t know scared the bejesus out of me but, last night, all that changed. I received an invitation to go to a ‘red carpet’ evening at a hotel in Monaco and I went! Alone! I dressed up in my best frock, stuck on some high heels, slapped on some make-up and a big smile and entered a room full of people I’d never met.

Within 2 minutes I was chatting away to a lovely woman who I spent most of the evening with, within 15 minutes we were talking to two other ladies (in French which usually doubles the anxiety for me) and it went on from there. I must have spoken to at least a dozen new people! I was even chatted up two or three times and, do you know what, I had no fear……it could have been the couple of glasses of wine but I honestly don’t think so. You know what it feels like to have mad butterflies in your stomach when you’re anxious but I didn’t even have that just a mild sense of anticipation.

So, what changed? Well, one I have been listening to motivational talks on Youtube about self-confidence which have really helped but, more importantly, I suppose I just got sick and tired of hiding from the rest of the World and feeling sad. I decided that, whatever time I have left on this planet, I want to enjoy it, I want to live my life and be happy. Now, I’ve said that, it all seems so simple and I wonder why I’ve waited all this time but, I guess, I just wasn’t ready. I’m ready now, it’s my time to shine and I’m feeling pretty damn good!

Have you ever had a breakthrough moment like that? Please let me know, I’d love to hear from you.

Lisa x

    Well done! Chatted up eh?
We’ve had a lovely relaxing three weeks here, homeward bound on Monday. I’m hating having to get rid of this place for next to nothing and we’re going to have one last visit in September.
    Love from us both. xx

Yes, I think you’re right Deb, it’s exactly that – if we can tear down the barriers that we create for ourselves we’ll be in a position to accept and embrace what the universe has to offer us :O) xx

    Well done you! xx
We are our own worst enemies aren’t we, and can always find dozens of excuses why we should not do things, or go to places. I think a good idea for most people is to volunteer to do anything! Not only do you get to do new things, meet new people, and widen your general experiences, but you also contribute to society and help others along the way.

Hey Lisa, this is truly excellent news for you, as much as you are proud of yourself l feel proud for you, well done – it’s wonderful isn’t it, when the confidence returns.

Suze has recently had her own confidence return after a dreadful sexual harassment incident in 2015, which happened also when she was just entering post menopause, favourite child left with the grandkids to Australia to live and only son started hating his mother – some fairly hefty blows on her confidence, but she is starting to return to the confident person she once was, and l am proud of her for facing her inner devils and battling them, and trusting in herself again, just as you have – so well done ๐Ÿ™‚

I know I seem like a walking contradiction, but as someone who has almost zero self confidence, I have no problem putting myself out there. I don’t know if it would you help you to remember that what you are doing is for YOU. I also remind myself that to date I have somehow survived 100% of my worst days. I’m glad you went and glad you enjoyed yourself!

    Awesome, Lisa, good job! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

I remember going through much the same transition when I was a young man; I was scared to death of unknown social occasions. No one knew it cuz I hid it, but I would avoid them for anxiety reasons. In my twenties I decided to break out of that but it took me a decade of try and try again. Even in my thirties, when I went back to school, I was frightened out of my wits, at first. I kept hammering away and now I’m better known as the guy who won’t shut up most of the time. ๐Ÿ˜‰

We can evolve, and we do. Go get ’em, Lisa!

That’s wonderful Tom – what a great achievement to go from anxiety to life and soul of the party :O)
You’re so right, it’s only fear that holds us back and that can’t hurt us so evolve I shall ;O) xx
