Song Lyric Sunday

Good morning everybody! Here we are again at the end of another week  (I do hope that you had a good one) and it’s time once again for Song Lyric Sunday. This week our host Jim Adams said that we would have a ‘plethora of songs to chose from’ with our prompt Boogie/Rock/Rolling Stone but, I have to be honest I was pretty stumped. I couldn’t think of a single track that I really like that would fit and, if I don’t like a track I really don’t want to share it with you guys. So, that left me with Rolling Stone’s tracks and, I have to admit I am not a huge Stones fan mainly because I don’t like Mick Jagger’s voice (sorry Mick). What track would you use for this prompt? Got one already? Then why not play along! Here are some rules for you:

  • Post the lyrics to the song of your choice, whether it fits the theme or not.
  • Please try to include the songwriter(s) – it’s a good idea to give credit where credit is due.
  • Make sure you also credit the singer/band and if you desire you can provide a link to where you found the lyrics.
  • Link to the YouTube video, or pull it into your post so others can listen to the song.
  • Ping back to this post will eventually work, as long as you are being patient, but you can also place your link in the comments if you don’t like to wait.
  • Read at least one other person’s blog, so we can all share new and fantastic music and create amazing new blogging friends in the process.
  • Feel free to suggest future prompts.
  • Have fun and enjoy the music.

After much thought, I came up with the only Rolling Stones track that I really like but sung by Guns and Roses (I hope that still counts):

Please allow me to introduce myself
I’m a man of wealth and taste
I’ve been around for a long, long year
Stole many a man’s soul to waste
And I was ’round when Jesus Christ
Had his moment of doubt and pain
Made damn sure that Pilate
Washed his hands and sealed his fate
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name
But what’s puzzling you
Is the nature of my game
I stuck around St. Petersburg
When I saw it was a time for a change
Killed the czar and his ministers
Anastasia screamed in vain
I rode a tank
Held a general’s rank
When the blitzkrieg raged
And the bodies stank
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name, oh yeah
Ah, what’s puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, oh yeah
I watched with glee
While your kings and queens
Fought for ten decades
For the gods they made
I shouted out
Who killed the Kennedys?
When after all
It was you and me
Let me please introduce myself
I’m a man of wealth and taste
And I laid traps for troubadours
Who get killed before they reached Bombay
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, oh yeah
But what’s puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, oh yeah, get down, baby
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, oh yeah
But what’s confusing you
Is just the nature of my game, mm yeah
Just as every cop is a criminal
And all the sinners saints
As heads is tails
Just call me Lucifer
‘Cause I’m in need of some restraint
So if you meet me
Have some courtesy
Have some sympathy, and some taste
Use all your well-learned politesse
Or I’ll lay your soul to waste, mm yeah
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, mm yeah
But what’s puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, mm mean it, get down
Oh yeah, get on down
Oh yeah
Oh yeah
Tell me baby, what’s my name
Tell me honey, can ya guess my name
Tell me baby, what’s my name
I tell you one time, you’re to blame
Oh, right
What’s my name
Tell me, baby, what’s my name
Tell me, sweetie, what’s my name
Songwriters: Keith Richards / Mick Jagger
Despite the subject matter – the devil demanding sympathy – or maybe because of it, I find this track really interesting and innovative; I’d love to know your thoughts.
Have a great Sunday one and all

I was just playing this track the other day. Then that was followed by lots of Floyd and capped off with Peter Gabriel. Have a good day.

We’ll forgive you for not liking Mick Jagger’s voice. His manner, and facial mannerisms always put me off. However, great music is good whatever its source!
