#FOWC: Over

She sat in the back of the tiny boat and watched the face of the ferryman as he rowed her to the shore. It was completely blank but shadows played across it as the light began to dim. She was desperate for reassurance but the ferryman did not speak. In the distance she could see a figure on the opposite bank, dressed all in black; he was waiting for her….

Her fear mounted as she imagined the bottomless, black depths of the sea beneath the boat and she focused her rigid gaze on her waiting host, still standing, but now with hand outstretched. His face hidden by a black hood, she could see only his fingers, white in the moonlight, reaching for her hand.

As the boat came to a gentle stop she paid the ferryman, who took the coins without a word, and took the hand of the one who’d been waiting; it was as cold as ice. He slowly raised his hooded head and smiled at her before saying, in his deep, powerful voice:

“Why do you look so frightened my dear, you knew this day was coming?”

She looked deep into his black eyes and replied:

“Bloody hell Brian, you know how much I hate the water! Who’s stupid idea was it to have a Halloween party on a sodding island? Honestly, that boat right was terrifying, I’m so glad it’s over

I had so much fun with Fandango’s  one word prompt the other day, I thought I’d give it another go ;O)
